FedEx Sues New York Law Firm Over Alleged Staged Crashes and Fake Injury Claims

FedEx is taking a personal injury law firm to court, and the accusations are severe. The delivery giant filed a lawsuit on Tuesday in Manhattan federal court, alleging that the Ikhilov Law Group and its founder, attorney Zorik “Erik” Ikhilov, ran a years-long fraud scheme built around staged or exaggerated vehicle crashes.

According to the complaint, the operation wasn’t limited to the law firm. FedEx described a coordinated network involving doctors, medical clinics, radiologists, chiropractors, and surgical providers — all allegedly working together to turn minor incidents into major injury cases.

Ikhilov did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

How the scheme allegedly worked

FedEx claims the law firm steered accident claimants into unnecessary or inflated medical treatment. The goal, according to the lawsuit, was to build up documentation that would justify costly procedures and inflate settlement demands.

From there, the firm allegedly gathered paperwork, sent medical records, and filed court claims that either invented or overstated injuries. FedEx says many of the lawsuits were based on false accounts of how crashes happened — and in some cases, whether the injuries were even real.

The company stressed that it’s not challenging legitimate personal injury cases. Instead, it argues Ikhilov and the other defendants crossed a clear line by knowingly submitting false claims in New York state courts. That forced FedEx to defend against cases that wouldn’t have existed otherwise.

A pattern across the industry

FedEx isn’t the first major company to make this kind of accusation. The lawsuit follows similar complaints filed by Uber against law firms in Los Angeles, Miami, and Philadelphia. In those cases, Uber alleged that lawyers worked alongside medical providers to file fraudulent injury claims against the ride-share company.

FedEx drew a direct parallel in its complaint. The company said it was targeted — just like Uber — because of its “deep pockets.” In a statement, FedEx said it is committed to protecting its customers and team members from fraudulent behavior.

What FedEx is seeking

The lawsuit includes claims under the federal anti-racketeering law known as RICO, along with allegations of common law fraud, unjust enrichment, and deceptive trade practices.

FedEx is seeking unspecified monetary damages. It also wants a court order that would permanently bar the defendants from continuing the alleged conduct. Several medical providers are named as defendants alongside Ikhilov and his firm.
